MetroExplore is Oʻahuʻs local guide to places, dining, events, and more. Our mission is to help both visitors and residents discover the very best the island has to offer — from world-class beaches and scenic hikes to hidden local gems and community events.

Our Story

MetroExplore was created to build a context-aware smart tourism recommendation system using machine learning and real-time data. What started as a research project evolved into a fully functioning local guide designed to serve the Oʻahu community.

How It Works

Our recommendation engine uses XGBoost machine learning combined with real-time weather, time-of-day, crowd level, and user interest data to surface the most relevant places for each visitor. The itinerary builder further optimizes your day using geographic zone grouping and route optimization — so you spend less time driving and more time exploring.

MetroExplore covers a wide range of categories across Oʻahu, including beaches, hikes, attractions, dining, shopping, events, wellness services, transportation, and more. Our database is regularly updated to keep information accurate and current.

Built with Local Knowledge

Our events calendar is curated with local accuracy in mind. We track recurring community events across Oʻahu — from Royal Hawaiian Band performances to the KCC Farmers Market every Saturday, the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and the beloved Friday night fireworks at Hilton Hawaiian Village. Seasonal events like the Honolulu Festival, Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, and King Kamehameha Day Parade are also included so you never miss what's happening on the island.
